Description:
HandyShopper is a tool for managing your shopping lists.
It helps you build a shopping database that remembers everything you've purchased before, so that you can find them in your "All" list (master list) and mark them as needed so they appear in your "Need" list.
When you go shopping, you check off items from your list as you put them in your cart, then after you pay for them you use the "Checkout" command to move the checked-off items back to the "All" list (items that aren't checked off yet stay in the "Need" list).
Even though HandyShopper is designed for shopping lists, you can use it for other kinds of lists, too.
Here are a few of the many features of HandyShopper:
- Create as many databases as you wish (shopping lists or other lists).
- Mark items in your database (list) as Needed, and once you finish shopping, the items are remembered so you can quickly reuse them later.
- You can keep track of how many of each item you need, what the price is, the aisle where the item is located, whether the item is taxable, and more.
- Tap an item and hold the stylus down for half a second to pop up a context menu with some common actions.
- A special one-handed mode lets you mark off items with one hand, without having to pull out the stylus.
- The Total command adds up the total amount for the items you have marked as Needed, and the total amount of the items you've put in your cart.
- Notes can be attached to items.
- Each database can be sorted by any of the fields (up to 3 fields at a time).
- Keep track of up to 100 stores per database, and which items are available at which stores.
- Stores that have needed items show up in bold in the Stores dropdown list.
- Organize items in up to 100 categories per database.
- The column widths in the list view can be resized by dragging the column header divider bars.
- Optionally keep track of prices and aisles for an item on a per-store basis.
- Copy an item to another database, including which stores the item is available at.

Update Description:
v3.0.3 build 4208 (08-06-2008):
- Import: If a file name is entered without a path, the Import command looks for the file in the \My Documents folder on the device.
- Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0 Touch Screen Phones: A number of improvements targetting these devices.
o Uses softkey toolbars in all screens.
o Shows/hides the Lookup edit box when showing/hiding the soft input panel. This allows T9 style input panels to work properly.
o All controls now show when they are navigated to, making it easier to navigate using a direction pad or keyboard.
o The softkeys in the Find screen work more naturally now (the right softkey is "Go" when you have entered a new lookup string, or is "Next" if a search is in progress).
o The calculator buttons are larger now and easier to press with fingertips. The "MR" button now lights up to indicate when the calculator has a number in its memory. The operator buttons (add, subtract, multiply, divide) now light up to indicate the operation that will be performed.
o The Options and Total screens now show scrollbars when the controls don't all fit on the screen.
o Most screens now make edit controls wider in landscape orientation.
o The up/down buttons on direction pads now work normally in the Notes field in the Details screen, to allow navigating between controls properly.
o Added an Attach Note (or Edit Note) command on the context menu in the list view.
- HS3Convert: Added a -X flag (uppercase X) to prefix all text strings in a .CSV file with a single quote character. This enables some spreadsheet programs such as Excel to recognize the cells as text, instead of sometimes mistakenly treating them as formulas.
- Dialog boxes with help text now have a (?) icon in the upper right corner. The databases view and list view both have help text but they don't have a (?) shortcut; instead you must use Start->Help as usual.
- Fixed: Worked around a problem in some Today Themes that didn't properly set two gradient colors for the list view.
- Fixed: Fixed private records visibility - changing the default setting (Hide/Mask/Show) didn't take effect until after exiting and restarting HandyShopper.
- Fixed: Fixed line ending problems in HS3Convert (Palm OS and Windows represent the end of a line of text differently).
- Fixed: And various minor fixes, cosmetic and otherwise.
v3.0.2 build 4026 (26-04-2008):
- Import: The Import command now supports both Unicode TXT files and normal TXT files.
- Fixed: Renaming a PDB database accidentally truncated the file, effectively removing all the records.
v3.0.1 build 4020 (20-04-2008):
- Fixed: HS3Convert was only outputting the first digit for per-store prices.
v3.0 build 3930 (30-03-2008):
- Installer: Installation is easy now with the new installer.
- Categories: Now supports up to 100 user-defined categories.
- Multiline Descriptions: The list view now uses multiple lines to show an item when the Description or Custom Text fields contain more text than can fit in one line.
- Lookup tool: Now you can turn off the category and store filter when using the Lookup tool.
- Copy Database: The Copy command works now in the list of databases, and lets you make a copy of the selected database.
- Windows Mobile 5.0: For best fit with the new Windows Mobile 5.0 look, HandyShopper uses softkey toolbars in most screens when running on Windows Mobile 5.0 and higher.
- Storage Cards: To make it easier to share a storage card between a Palm OS device and a Windows Mobile device, HandyShopper now also finds databases in the \PALM\Launcher folder on a storage card.
- And numerous other minor improvements, cosmetic and otherwise.
- Fixed: HS3 and HS3Convert could skew column widths slightly under certain conditions.
- Fixed: HS3Convert had trouble with store names if the -i flag was not used.
- Fixed: Resizing columns had a math error and could go narrower than intended.
- Fixed: The Find command in the databases list could return incorrect matches in some PDB databases.
- Fixed: Mistaken error when trying to create the first category in a database that has no categories yet.
- Fixed: Sorting by category behaved unpredictably due to a data size/alignment bug.
- Fixed: Fixed bug that prevented the database from being sorted when selecting a store in a database that uses per-store prices/aisles.
- Fixed: Reinstalling on Windows Mobile 5.0 now remembers the global preferences (such as whether to use the Today Theme colors, whether to use in-cell editing, and which database was most recently opened).

When I switched from my Palm Tungsten to my Pocket PC this was the one app that I missed! Thanks for the port. As with the Palm version this is an AWESOME app - and it is free! Beats any other "list" software hands down!

I love this program. It is indespensable. All of the stores & lists are customizable. I use it for my gorcery list, my wish-list, my gift buying lists and anything else I need to pick up or purchase. I love this program.

I am a user of handyshopper since so many years on palm and now moved to pocket pc and installed the handy shopper pocket pc version. But I found some features are not available like alarm notifications. When we can have pcoket pc version with all funstions. Also if new feature of total income/expense balanace can be added, then this will be the best software in the world. Thanks.

There's no version for Pocket PC 2002, and that's what I have. I miss it so much, I used it every week for shopping on a budget. And there's nothing quite like it among the so-called "competition." :(

This is excellent! It's just an alpha but already it's better than the shareware alternatives.

This is the program I was waiting for. It serves my needs exactly. The only problem I found, was with sorting on aisles per shop, which does not work.

Was my preferred lists management app on Palm, for its versatility and usability. Thanks Mike, we are waiting for the next releases.

Make my switch to the "dark side" worthwhile since HS for PalmOS is among my all-time favorite apps. Pretty good for an Alpha release. It is pretty stable as it is and has not caused any problems with my PPC/Phone. Currently, a lot of features found on the PalmOS version is still non-existent on this but its a good start and is pretty usable for rudimentary shopping. I'm personally looking forward to a full-functioning version in the near future.
