Pocket e-Sword is a Christian Bible reader. The program lacks nothing from the best e-book readers: it is possible to consult a dictionary, search, compare, add bookmarks, etc.
The really cool thing about Pocket e-Sword is that you can have a complete seminary library with you wherever you go!
No Bible is included, so you will need to download and install at least one of those. You may also want to download additional resources for maximum potential and enjoyment here.
- The layout is pretty straight forward. Tabs give you quick access to the different resource types, and a combobox lets you choose the specific title you want. The Bible view has a Scripture reference button to allow you to quickly navigate to any location in the Bible.
- "Compare" just has to be a choice in the Bible resource combobox! Easily compare the various translations to see how they rendered the Greek or Hebrew manuscripts.
- The Commentary view is synchronized with the Bible view. You can also browse to any other reference within the active commentary.
- Searching in Pocket e-Sword is just as simple as searching in the PC version ... just smaller.
- The Daily Devotional, Scripture Memory and Bible Reading tools will encourage you, and help you read through the Scriptures. These holy habits are a must for every Christian, and Pocket e-Sword is here to assist you in these.
- Even VGA and landscape orientation is supported if your PDA is equipped to handle it!
General installation instructions:
- It is highly recommended that you perform a "soft reset" on your PDA prior to installing Pocket e-Sword. This way all of the required files can be copied and registered as needed.
- None of the files you download should go onto the device itself. All files download onto the desktop PC, then transferred onto the device using ActiveSync.
- Pocket e-Sword should be installed into main memory, but all of the Bibles and other resources may be installed onto a storage card.

I love using the desk top version of e-sword. However, I am unable to load the program in my IPAC 1910 even though I tried adjusting memory per instructions from Mr. Myers. Additional request for assistance on two other occations were ignored - no response, not even a "I'm sorry we can not do anything for you." I am disappointed.

This is an excellent program. I use it at church and use the daily reading to read through the Bible. I wish that I can access the commentary when using the daily reading function. Though this program hasn't been updated nearly a year, it is still a great program. I would like to see a Smartphone version in the future as it seems possible (albeit cumbersome) to have such a version. I may be getting a Smartphone for my wife soon.

I have been using this program for a couple of years now. I had it on my Dell Axim and when I got my ipaq it was the first thing I installed (also use the PC version). Great job and Thanks! May God bless you.

It doesn't get any better than this. This little app is so good, I don't see much need to use my Windows or Mac Bible software anymore... or carry a paper Bible either. It's like carrying an entire Bible library in my pocket... only easier to use!
**** [Mar 26, 2007] by Andrew using Ipaq rx1950
Pretty good. The only shame is that you have to buy a couple of the translation packs. I really wanted the NASB but can't justify the expense.

I was amazed that it really supports VGA devices like mine. Currently I'm using Good News Bible/Tagalog Ang Biblia. I am looking for an NIV version of the Bible but even if this version is not yet available I'm still very happy with e-Sword. Great job! God bless!

Having it in my O2 mini means I have ready access to not only the bible, but also the commentaries and bible dictionary - all of these without having to carry them all with me wherever I go. Bless the one(s) involved in this whole affair of making God's Word available in our own gadgets!

This is good bible software for pocket PC. But I & many foreign have problems with local bible, where the book name still in english name, instead of in local name. Many people confuse with this. I hope they will update it, and it will become 5 star applications. God Bless You.

***** [May 4, 2005] by Loren Sanders using HP iPaq 3100
Just got my Pocket PC days ago, and having used the PC version of E-Sword for going on two years now, I made the ppc version of E-Sword my first add-on program. Rick Meyers ministry is an absolute blessing to so many people the world over; what he's done (and continues to) with E-Sword is a wondeful example of servanthood within the body of Christ. I pray that his ministry continues to grow, and that all who benefit from it, donate to it so it can continue to help serve and grow other brothers and sisters in Christ. Peace/Faith/Hope/Love. In Him always, in all ways, Loren Sanders. Milwaukee, WI.

I have downloaded other bible softwares. But after finding this one, I erased all of them and downloaded this one. This, by far, is the best software out there. I am reccommending this to all of my church!!!!!! What a blessing it is to have people do this for all of us for free!!!!!!! May God shine upon you forever!!!
***** [Feb 21, 2005] by Pete Shaw using Dell Axim X50v
I have used the PC version for years, until this came out. Excellent!!! is my one word evaluation. Rick is a brilliant programmer, and has embarrassed many expensive Bible programs. Anyone who complains about it not having the (thought-for-thought, dynamic-equivalence) NIV needs to download the free ESV, and see what an accurate modern English translation looks like. After you use the ESV for a while you will forget the NIV. It is a cross between the NIV and the NASB; the readability of the former, with the accuracy of the latter. You get the best of both worlds. Go ESV! (BTW, I do not work for Crossway Publishers, or sell ESV Bibles.)

Without doubt the best Bible software for Pocket PC or Desktop (e-sword.et) available. Having been a Bible student and computer bug for many years, I've tried a lot of them and eSword beats even the most expensive titles out there! Outstanding!

I have purchased many Bible softwares but this by far supercedes all of them. The resources and ability to change between screen makes this a walking resource center. Although I know it is a free software I can't see how I can not send you a donation with all the programs I've purchased that don't even come close to your program. Expecially thank you for all the personal emails you sent me until I finally got it right (I should have followed the training) Thank you once again for creating such a program! The check is in the mail.

This software is fantastic to say the least. It's got all you need including the ability to search for words/phrases and bookmark facilities. You can install and switch from various versions of the translation - I find Standard English to be the best. It's excellent - download it.

It's easier to sell a lie than to give the truth away. With that said, this is an incredible software package that's better than some of the commercial Bible products on the market. Blessings await you!

I must say that I agree with the fellow reviewers. I almost had to move to Palm and begged Rick to port to Palm, though luckily I didn't have to. I love everything about this program. It is by far the best I have ever used. Would be nice if there was a port to palm though. Only negative, it would be nice if we could install the actual program to the external card.

Best PPC bible study program bar none. Better designed than either Olivetree's or Laridian's with free resources that the others charge big bucks for and others they don't have -- a "must have" bible study program for anyone serious about bible study on the PPC. The free ESV bible reads just as easy as the NIV does IMO.

***** [Apr 16, 2004] by Daniel using Dell Axim X3i
Excellent free product! Also for those stating that the downside for this program is no NIV or whatever Bible translation that is not on here is due to copyrights. But Rick is continuously trying to get the ok's from the various Christian Bible companies. So please be patient. :)

I have used PC E-sword for years. The Pocket version is an incredible resource to cary around with you. The Bibles are 3-7 MB. The Commentaries are 3-8 MB. There are dictionaries, devotionals, it has a search feature, compare, bookmarks, Greek, Strongs. With a 128MB SD card you can have 6 Bibles 3 dictionary's 2 commentaries, 3 devotionals...you get the idea. It works very well.
**** [Feb 27, 2004] by Ben Meadors using Dell Axim X5
I love that it has more free commentaries and dictionaries than olivetree, but wow. The program as well as the references take up alot off memory. It ha a good interface though. I like it. If you download it, get a Storage Card!
***** [Feb 25, 2004] by JR using IPAQ 2215
This is a fantastic piece of software. The software originally was written for the PC, but now has been ported to PPC. You're going to need some free space (or a SD card) because the bible/dictionary files are quite weighty--BUT IT IS WORTH IT!
