Description:
MobileTraveler enables you when you are traveling abroad (e.g. Japan) to find your way around there. It uses Google to find routes and enables pre-fetching parts of Googles/Microsoft, OpenStreet maps and satellite images at home or any where you have WiFi or cheap datarates of your mobile telephone provider.
Besides this it is especially usefull when you are visiting Japan. Traveling in Japan with the public transport is very safe and a fast way to move around. MobileTraveler contains almost all Japans Honsu area trainlines and all shinkansen tracks.
And best of all it's freeware.
Mobile Traveler is now including a KML file of Il Giro d' Italia. So you can see what kind of terrain the cyclers in the Giro have to taike. Choose load track to load the route and choose map provider google terrain to see how the terrain is.
Visit http://www.mobiletraveler.nl to download the MapConverter too that helps you to create large maps at the WinXP, WindowsVista & Windows7 PC. These maps can be used by MobileTraveler which speeds-up the performance of MobileTraveler and decreases tile downloads (money payed to your mobile internet provider).

Known issues MobileTraveler v1.4:
It is known that the storage card the MobileTraveler1.4 application is installed on should not be locked (write protected). This is because when saving tracks or adding/editing POI values are saved on this storage card.
The MobileTraveler1.4 application must be restarted in case a new map is added in the maps directory. This because MobileTraveler1.4 checks the available maps at startup.
The installation directory of the MapFileConverter application on your PC is of importance if you are running Windows Vista. It is not allowed to install it in the "Program Files" directory because Windows Vista does not allow the MapFileConverter application to store files in this directory. And that is just was MapFileConverter does. It stores the created maps in the Output sub directory. Using the default directory that is sugested by the msi install program works however fine.

The information gives the impression that it can only be used when touring Japan or Europe..........NOT SO! If you download the appropriate map, it will work regardless of where in the world you want to use it. App has great potential, but froze my device too often to consider it reliable. The GUI and associated icons/buttons are a bit clumsy. It could have a better designed interface. The Voice prompt was completely unintelligible and very robot-ish. App uses a lot of the devices operating memory which could account for the freeze ups. Hopefully,in future versions, the issues will be resolved.

Its great. But I was wondering if any1 knew how to delete write-protected apps out off appmanager in file explorer>my device>windows>appmgr. I have deleted their icons and removed them from remove/install programs list. It says its in use or write protected.
